When you study in Speech Language and Hearing Sciences, you gain a foundation in two areas: speech-language pathology (SLP) and audiology (hearing). You learn the normal processes of speech, language, and hearing, and gain an introduction to communication disorders.
Speech language and hearing sciences is by definition an interdisciplinary field, with its roots in psychology, physiology, physics, music, linguistics, and education.
Our department offers two degree programs: a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.). We also offer a minor.
Our faculty have widely-recognized expertise as researchers, teachers, and practitioners. Depending on your particular focus, you have a chance to gain clinical and/or research experience while pursuing either the B.A. or B.S. degree. The department offers clinical and community outreach, a bilingual training program in Spanish and English, an American Sign Language (ASL) program, and guidance regarding job placement and externships.
Our department is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
