Undergraduate students in SLHS the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences are eligible to apply for a few awards and research grants. The list of awards that accept self-nominations is provided below, and students are encouraged to apply to the awards for which they meet the criteria. All undergraduate students are also encouraged to submit a general application through the IU Scholarships system and a FAFSA once a year to be eligible for faculty nominated and selected awards. Each award requires its own application.

SLHS Undergraduate Awards
The following awards require students to submit a separate application to the IU Scholarships system, in addition to the general application described above. Applications may be submitted through the IU Scholarships system by clicking the link above.
- Norvelle Student Achievement Award
Eligibility: Graduating seniors who are majoring in SLHS and have high achievement. Achievement may be measured in various ways, such as community involvement, contributions to clinic or research, academic achievement, professional accomplishments, leadership, etc. with an emphasis on speech, language and hearing sciences.
Amount: $1500
Application Deadline: Spring semester.
- Student Assistance Fund in SLHS
Eligibility: 2 undergraduates majoring in SLHS, with sophomore or junior standing. The intent of the award is to support students with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Amount: $500 each
Application Deadline: Spring semester.
- Undergraduate Research Grants
Eligibility: Undergraduate students who are working on research projects with SLHS faculty. These small grants support students who need financial assistance to complete those projects. 4 grants are available.
Amount: up to $500 each.
Application Deadlines: last Friday in October (fall awards) or last Friday in February (spring awards)
SLHS Graduating Student Awards
A few awards are also given each year to students based on their academic and research accomplishments. These awards are selected by the SLHS faculty and students receive these honors during our commencement activities.
The Bob and Martie Crist Award - This award goes to the graduating seniors with the highest GPA.
The Watson Research Award - This award goes to graduating senior(s) with the best senior honors poster.
