American Sign Language (ASL) is a visual, non-spoken language that is communicated using manual signs, facial expressions, and body movements. It is the primary language for the Deaf community in the United States and Canada.
In Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, we offer an ASL course sequence that can be taken to fulfill the College of Arts and Sciences foreign language requirement and the General Education World Language requirement. You also can pursue an American Sign Language minor that prepares you to communicate conversationally in ASL and fosters a deeper understanding of Deaf culture.
