The Vocal Physiology and Imaging (VPI) Laboratory, directed by Dr. Rita Patel, broadly focuses on vocal physiology and voice production in normal and disordered voice across the lifespan.

More specifically, the research in the lab is focused on pediatric vocal development and identification of physiological factors of laryngeal function that underlie severely disturbed voice qualities. Other areas of research in the lab involve investigating the effects of hydration and endocrine function on vocal fold vibrations.
