Sherman Charles is a doctoral student in both the Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences and Linguistics Departments. He holds an M.A. in Hispanic Linguistics from the Spanish and Portuguese department here at IU. He currently works with 3D/4D ultrasound in the Speech Production Lab, under the direction of Dr. Steven Lulich. His research interests fall under (articulatory and acoustic) phonetics, speech production, speech imaging, language acquisition, the speaking and singing voice, and liquid speech sounds. In his research, he primarily works on Brazilian Portuguese but he has plans to branch out to other languages and eventually vocal performance. Outside of academia, he owns and operates a small business with his husband, Romario, which is supported by their fur baby, Laika.
